The Saadiyat Island

The Saadiyat Island which means Island of Happiness .it is a huge island, about 500 meters off the coast of Abu Dhabi. It costs US$ 27 billion. My partner, Ali and I did researches about TDIC project for Saadiyat Island. Moreover, you can see our PowerPoint about its features at link: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/67661/Saadiyat-Island-ppt.html

We choose this project because it has many features for better lives. It carries many houses around 150,000 residents that linked to Abu Dhabi city .It has many places for entertainment and famous hotels. This island is very beautiful because it has a natural environment that protected mangrove forests.
The least interesting project was Desert Island. It is very hard to deal with those islands because it will cost a lot of money and time. The UAE is a very hot country which very difficult to deal with these islands .

Cool City
Now, it is the time for human to take action to stop global warming by looking for many solutions. Carbon emission level is higher than ever and the weather is so hot due to our daily activities.
There are many good adaptations that our government should take for this disaster and reduce the global warming. The first significant solution is that we should us solar energy which is good for us to generate power instead of electricity which generate from oil. The second good adaptation is that we can use metro instead of cars because cars produce a high amount of carbon emission. The final solution, we can generate power from wind because the UAE is a very windy country and that’s would help us to reduce the using of electricity and oil.
Turning to the bad adaptation. Many countries don’t use the air condition and have a fresh air but in our country we can’t do that because the weather is very hot and no one can live without air condition. After that, there are many renewable energy but we can’t offer them in one time because our country produce a high amount of oil that we depend of them for living. The final one is that we can’t force every one to ride buses instead of cars which are helping to raise the level of carbon emission.
In the end, we can change every thing in one time and we can’t force many people to do something because it may not suitable solution for their lives.

BioMass Energy
Biomass is one of the most common renewable energy resources which produced from the carbonaceous waste of our and natural activities. It is a result from many sources, such as wood, agricultural crops, unprocessed material from the forest, parts of household waste and timber.
It has many advantages; first significant advantage is that it can be used to generate electricity with the same tools or power plants that are now burning fossil fuels. Secondly, Biomass is an important source of energy and the most important fuel worldwide after coal, natural gas and oil. This power is being used for: Power generation, Cooking, cars and other mechanical application. In these days, biomass has been used less than before. In the developed countries like India, this energy is an important source for applications like combined heat and power generation.
In the end, biological material such as trees, grasses, agricultural crops or other can be used as a solid fuel that generates electric power, heat, chemicals, or fuels. Today, there are many resources to produce energy but wood is the main energy resource which is good for economy.

Critical thinking
Critical thinking needs a lot of concentration, we should always be aware about what’s going on around us. We must look for solution of new things happen to our daily live and search the advantages if they are good and specific their disadvantages by giving an opinion or proofing. Critical thinking is best way to understand things as the ability of thinkers to take the responsibility of their own thinking. So they must build up their standards for analyzing and assessing their own thinking and regularly use those principles to improve its quality. In our countries we have many critical thinkers like Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai (United Arab Emirates). A man who believe that if we work so hard we can get what’s mine and reach the top .
Abu Dhabi (Masdar)
The time has come for solar power, the United Arab Emirates will make a $350 million solar power plant in Abu Dhabi, which is the first city that will going to use this energy in the Arab’s world
The UAE want to use alternative energy which is solar power that generates about 500 megawatt plant, likely to begin in 2009. there are many reasons why This energy is good for our environment , the first reasons is that it has no carbon emission because it converts solar energy directly into electricity, on the other hand, our country want to reduces the using of hydrocarbon power which is causing the global warming. Second advantage is that it generates lots of electricity from sunlight and it will be really cheap in the long-long term. Other significant advantage is that creates no pollution, this helping to reduce the damage of dependency on fossil fuel power stations. The final positive Point is that it creates many jobs which reducing unemployment people
In the end, our country moves to the next level of cleaning the environment and reducing the global warming by building alternative power for pure future.

Carbon Footprint

A Carbon footprint is our personal behaviour which effects global warming through the amount of our activities and CO2 production which is a very serious gas that damaging our environment.
There are many causes that lead us to this serious problem. First, we should take a look to our houses. Recent studies show that boiler and air conditioner are the most major causes of carbon emissions from our houses. Lighting is the next one, which produce a high carbon emission. Also papers and food also produce a certain amount of CO2.The final problem is that people don’t care about their planet because most of them don’t believe the truth about carbon footprint or global warming.
Turning to the solutions, we can use our effort to reduce this serious issue. At home, we should reduce the use of air conditioner that can help to reduce the CO2 emissions and bills. Also, televisions and other device should be turned off when we are not using them. Then, we should recycle our papers and other wasting goods to its recycling center. The final solution is that we have to travel by bus or train instead of cars or airplane because they emitted a great amount of CO2.
In the end, I have learned that carbon footprint is a very powerful shock of our results behaviour on global warming. We should work together hand by hand to stop this problem and make our planet more suitable for living for the next generation.

My view about the movie
This is a very important movie to watch because it tells many facts that we are not very interested in. This movie talked about many evidences that accrued due to global worming. We should take actions to prevent this massive disaster and we have the chance to change our routine to be more careful for our environment and live happy and healthy life
Summary about An Inconvenient Truth Movie
The former U.S. Vice President Al Gore did this movie of An Inconvenient Truth which told that we are causing the global warming, and the effects are overwhelming. All scientists agree that global warming is true. There are many evidences that global warming is here .There are many changes in our planet such as glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being reduced, and storms and hurricanes are being increased. In the last 30 years, hurricanes were almost doubled. Another fact is that Malaria has stretch to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level. In Greenland, glaciers cause many ice flowing which has doubled over the past 15 years .About 279 kinds of plants and animals moved nearer to the poles due to global warming. Many people die due to global warming, about 300,000 people passed away in the last 25 year. In Greenland and Antarctica, shelf ices are being moved because sea levels rise by more than 20 feet. There are many droughts and wildfires because the sun is heating up .In the year of 2050; scientists predict that ices would be melting in the Arctic Ocean and many parts of the world would disappear.

HAppy Earth Day 2008

Earth Day, a day dedicated to the environmental health of our planet. Earth Day is observed in the United States, Canada, and many other countries around the world with programs designed to educate people about Earth’s environment and threats to the environment. Activities intended to improve the environment also take place. Earth Day is most often celebrated on April 22, but some people observe it on March 21, the first day of spring. Activities surrounding Earth Day may continue for weeks or months.
II Origin of Earth Day
Print this section
Earth Day was first observed on April 22, 1970. The idea for a nationwide demonstration in support of Earth’s environment came from Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin. Nelson is considered the founder of Earth Day. On the first Earth Day in 1970 as many as 20 million Americans in schools and communities across the country participated in rallies and demonstrations on behalf of Earth. In New York City, Mayor John Lindsay closed Fifth Avenue to automobile traffic, and thousands of people attended a fair on ecology in Central Park.
III Activities on Earth Day
Print this section
By 1990 Earth Day had become an international event, with more than 200 million people in 141 countries participating. Environmental groups use Earth Day as an occasion to draw attention to current local and global environmental problems and to discuss commonsense solutions. At fairs, festivals, and talks, people learn about air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution; the destruction of habitats (see Ecosystem); the devastation of hundreds of thousands of plant and animal species (see Endangered Species); the depletion of nonrenewable resources (see Conservation); and global warming. They explore exhibits on such topics as conserving energy, recycling, renewing natural habitats, leading healthier lives, making their backyards friendly to wildlife, and protecting endangered species. Volunteers gather to pick up litter; clean up streams, reservoirs, and other water supplies; restore parks; plant trees; and participate in other environmental activities.
An organization called Earth Day Network coordinates Earth Day activities around the world. The organization estimated that 1,000 groups and 500 million people were participating in Earth Day observances by the early 2000s.

Warming affects trees, streams in West
Climate change researchers are hesitant to ascribe a single cause for the warming, but they agree it's happening.
"By and large, there is a very detectable warming in this region," said Martin Hoerling, a meteorologist at the NOAA-funded Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo. His own research suggests the West could heat up a lot more, possibly by 5 degrees by the midpoint of the century, depending on the level of greenhouse-gas emissions.
The report, "Hotter and Drier: The West's Changed Climate," crunched numbers kept by NOAA's Western Regional Climate Center in Reno, Nev.
"That sounds about right," the center's acting director, Kelly T. Redmond, said.
"It's been warming in this region for the past 35 years, after a cool period in the 1970s. We've been decidedly above average. You could put an exclamation on it," he said.
Redmond has made calculations similar to the report's 2.2-degree rise, which has meant fewer subzero nights to control the population of mountain pine beetles devastating Colorado's lodgepole pines.
At first, he said, "I didn't know whether to trust these numbers or not." They came from a network of about 2,000 thermometers across the West — from airports to weather hobbyists' backyards — recording lows and highs since the late 1800s.
But other recent patterns — earlier snowmelt in spring, earlier lilac and honeysuckle blooms — convinced Redmond the recordings were accurate.
"In 100 years, this is the largest change we've seen, so it catches your attention," he said. "We can't definitely attribute it to human causes, but my suspicion is at least part of it is due to climate change."
The West also is in the grip of a decade-long drought, which tends to raise temperatures, said Hoerling, who likewise is hesitant to attribute the warming of the West solely on carbon emissions. He believes cyclical changes in sea-surface temperatures also are to blame.
The consequences, though, are plain to see. In Yellowstone National Park, aerial photographs show vast orange-needled forests of whitebark pine that were green just three years ago. Yellowstone grizzly bears depend heavily on the fatty seeds of the whitebark pine for food. Colorado's signature aspen stands also are drying up, leaving them vulnerable to fungus.
The Rocky Mountain snowpacks that melt earlier in spring leave less water for summer irrigation and heat up trout streams. Glaciers, which provide consistent stream flows during summer, are melting. The glaciers at Montana's Glacier National Park could melt entirely by 2022, U.S. Geological Survey researchers have calculated.
Montana, Idaho and Wyoming had their hottest Julys on record last summer, while Phoenix had 47 days of 109 degrees or hotter, according to the National Weather Service.
Powell and Mead reservoirs, meanwhile, are half-empty. The reservoirs collect water from the Colorado River, supplying much of the booming Southwest. If they keep drying up, it could shred the Colorado River Compact of 1922, an agreement that allocates fixed amounts of water among seven states.
The upper basin states have the water, but lower basin states including California have senior water rights — a crisis in the making, said Bradley H. Udall, director of the Western Water Assessment Cooperative at the University of Colorado.

'Every day is Mother's Day'

So say students of the UAE, who nonetheless celebrated the day on March 21. They take time out to tell Fatma Salem what a mother means to them.
Motherhood is the greatest blessing on earth. Motherhood is a symbol of kindness, forgiveness and unconditional love. A mother's touch is the first human touch in a child's life. A mother's heart is filled with untiring love for her children. She lives and dies for them and she's the source of love and protection.
Mother's Day is celebrated worldwide to honour all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. It is for the unconditional love and care they give their children, long after the child has become an adult and has become old enough to look after himself. Although various countries celebrate the day on various dates, in the UAE it falls on March 21.
This year Notes took the opportunity to give students a chance to express their love for their mothers and to tell us how they define the unique qualities of a mother.

Nice Poem about me !!

Until we meet My nights will be a little colder My days a little shorter My heart will beat a little less rapidUntil we meetI know that my arms will be empty My mind hurting from the constant thought of youMinutes will seem to be hoursHours will seem to be monthsWhile months will seem like eternityUntil we meet The stars in the sky will not affect me with its gleaming sparkles of life
